But wait! A child lives, despite the word wars in favor of or opposed to its existence! This life was no accident. For if it was, man and woman would most certainly have prevented the encounter!
Aside from that whispering voice in each new mother’s head, and more than likely because of it, real children are unable to declare their presence in our world; sight unseen, sometimes too quickly attributed to raging hormones, irregular periods and mutating cells. But wait! A child lives, despite the word wars in favor of or opposed to its existence! This life was no accident. For if it was, man and woman would most certainly have prevented the encounter!
According to Pregnancy.org, “The first trimester of pregnancy is the first 12 weeks after the first day of the last menstrual period. “ A whirlwind of events occurs from the moment of fertilization to fetal status. Tiny little faces are forming, and hearts beat! All the while, a child’s brain is sending messages to its growing body, helping him or her to circulate blood, grow bones and telling it to move and become active in its mother’s womb. A real person, complete with physical, mental, emotional and spiritual distinctions, is preparing to make an appearance in our world.
As the baby grows, so does Mom’s tummy! It’s a bit unnerving at first when those favorite jeans no longer fit—not to mention the fact that bras are getting tighter everyday! Important child development details are taking place, hidden from view, carefully protected from the dangers of the outside world, in a home provided for by Mom in her womb.
Children grow hair and gain eyesight during this phase of development. They prepare to eat and drink outside the womb, sucking and swallowing, just like they will do when they need to breastfeed and drink from baby bottles upon entering the world. Sensory development is going gangbusters, as are gender identifications that can finally be seen on ultrasounds.
What started out as the tiniest little whisper of human life, has grown into a vibrant (often heavy and quite possibly awkward for mom) baby. This little guy (or gal) is on the home stretch, preparing to make a grand entrance worthy of huge celebrations, lots of presents and tender moments, not to mention a few oops’s and unexpected’s along the way. Children in the third trimester of pregnancy build stronger immune systems to ward off some of those dangerous things they’ll be exposed to in the world. They gain lots of weight, necessary for survival outside the womb. Their brains go into overdrive, rapidly sending signals to the rest of their miraculous bodies, preparing them to join us. After all, these little people were headlining stars in the phenomenal adventure of growing throughout their mother’s pregnancy!
